The purpose of the Florida Consumer Action Council is to help consumers in the mental health field learn there is more to life than their disability. The FCAC exists to improve our quality of life which revolves around self determination, independence, responsibility, and autonomy.
The role of the FCAC in our state mental health system is to impower persons with mental illness, their families, friends, and mental health professionals.
We seek improved living conditions for our members. We often live in adult congregate living facilities or group homes, for survival.
We will eliminate stigma through acceptance, tolerance, and understanding by ourselves and others.
We seek meaningful work. Work in which we can learn to develop confidence, self worth, and esteem.
We will, as an organization, foster pride in our membership. Pride to replace the shame we often feel with our disabilities.
The basic role of the FCAC is to help change our Mental Health system and society to accept the reality that WE WILL RECOVER.
