The FCAC for Mental Health, Inc. of Clay County, is an organization totally staffed and operated by the handicapped / disabled individuals and our families within our own community. Our goal and purpose is to pool our personal experiences and work skills to work with other people who share our situation. Some of us have had a major crisis, or setbacks in our lives, and with our experience we are able to offer crisis intervention, housing, food, furniture, and transportation to and from doctor's appointments to help rebuild lives. We also offer training in new job skills, and attempt to channel people back into the community as productive citizens.
Because we are a non profit organization, we depend mainly on donations from generous-minded companies, who have an understanding of how important it is for people to feel good about themselves: to get a hand up, and not a hand out. Please, take time out to visit the "Our Friends" link on our web site to see who these companies are, and please do business with them anytime you can. The community we live in also helps us with donations of time, services, and money, which is always greatly appreciated.
We accept all types of donations including vehicles, clothes, furniture, and just about anything else. Our people have a chance to work with their hands to prepare these items either for re-sale, or to donate them on to a family that needs them. We try to do our part to contribute to our friends and neighbors, and from this we get a feeling of self worth.
All of us are clients, and work on a volunteer basis, except for our Social Security benefits. All donations, grants, and / or fund raising we obtain are used to further the operation of our projects. We believe in being self-sufficient and earning our own way, instead of depending on everyday welfare money to exist.
